West VA is close to Kentucky and has a lot of excellent slopes. Try places like Vermont or Colorado if your family plan a vacation during the winter.

14 is not too old to learn to snowboard. you may be more afraid to fly down the mountain at first but you will pick things up quick. (BE PREPARED TO FALL A LOT AT FIRST THOUGH…)

You’re never too old to learn how to snowboard, but especially at 14, you won’t have any trouble learning at all. The key to learning quickly is to balance being “on the edge”. As you’re learning, if you feel comfortable and “safe” every moment, during every turn, you’re not going to learn fast. It will come, but slowly. On the flip-side, if you go all out every moment, and over-step your boundaries, you’ll get hurt. The ideal way is to be in-between the two. Coming out of your comfort zone without doing something crazy. The key to progression involves some uneasiness.

Keep that in mind, and with the help of an instructor and/or someone who’s been doing it for a long time, you’ll do fine and learn quickly.

As for locations, you can take winter trips to Colorado or Utah, but you’ve got a place called Paoli Peaks in Indiana that might be good for weekend trips if/when you can’t do a long trip. 4 or 5 days straight of solid riding and you should be carving down some intermediate terrain (blue runs).

Come to Boise, Idaho (the state northeast of California, bordering Washington & Oregen sorry some people don’t know where Idaho is) you are no more than an hour from bogus basin ski resort

I started last year when I was 13 pretty close but I’ve picked it up pretty good now, but you would have to go snowboarding at least oce a week. Ive never tried surfing.

If you want to learn from the best, come here:

It’s an awesome summer camp. Kids from all over the WORLD come here every summer. Its in oregon, at mt. hood.
Timberline has snow year around. The camp was even attended by some of the most succesful pro’s out there. I went there last year and it was one of the funnest things i’ve ever done. They teach kids of every level.

Um i dont know of where is the closest place to board but 14 is definetely not too old to start. I started when i was 20 but then again i was into freestyle bmx for 3 years before. The main thing people mess up on is their fear that they will fall down. Thats why i suggest people practice falling down before they even start to board. Once you get over that fear the rest just takes practice and at 14 you’ll probably get the hang of it fast. Good luck and be safe

Well if I was you I would come up here to West Virginia. There is winterplace and snowshoe. Winterplace is my home resort and it is the most mellow in the state. So if you are wanting to learn id say go to winterplace cuz its way smaller and a better place to learn. Snowshoe is alot bigger, and is more advanced. The age 14 is actually a pretty good age to start thats the age most the girls i know started at, and as of your surfing/snowboarding question i wouldnt know but id def stick with snowboarding since is more avalible for me. But yeah just go a check out the ski resorts web sites just search winterplace ski resort West virginia.
